Channels and mic

Input selector (USB A·B / DIGITAL / LINE / PHONO / RETURN AUX)Input selector

Chooses the channel's source: a computer over USB (A or B), a player via DIGITAL or LINE, a turntable via PHONO, or the return of an external effect (RETURN AUX).

Player in LINE on channel 1? Set channel 1's selector to LINE.

Mentor tip: No sound on a channel? Check the selector first.

TRIM / CLIPInput level (gain)

TRIM adjusts the level of the incoming signal. The channel's CLIP indicator flashes if the signal is too loud.

Set TRIM so both tracks look about the same on the channel meters.

Mentor tip: CLIP flashing? Turn TRIM down until it stops.

Channel faderChannel fader

The channel's output volume. How the volume rises is set with the CH FADER switch.

Bring in a new track by raising the fader smoothly over 8–16 bars.

Mentor tip: Set TRIM once; after that, do the transition with the fader only.

CROSS FADER ASSIGN (A, THRU, B)Crossfader assign

Sends the channel to side A, side B or past the crossfader (THRU).

Mixing with the channel faders? Set THRU. Scratching or cutting with the crossfader? Assign the channels to A and B.

Mentor tip: Fader up but no sound? Check the assign switch and the crossfader position.

CrossfaderCrossfader

Blends the channels assigned to A and B, following the curve of the CROSS FADER switch.

A sharp curve is for scratching and quick cuts, a gentle one for smooth transitions.

Mentor tip: Don't yank the crossfader hard — it's built for finesse, not force.

CH FADER / CROSS FADER (curve)Fader curves

3-position switches: how fast the volume rises on the channel faders and on the crossfader.

A smooth curve is for long transitions, a sharp one for scratching.

Mentor tip: Track “jumps out” at the start of the fader's travel? A steep curve is set.

OFF, ON, TALK OVERMic switch

OFF: the mic is off. ON: the mic is on. TALK OVER: when you speak, the music is lowered automatically (by 18 dB by default).

For announcements, set TALK OVER: you speak and the music drops; you stop and it comes back.

Mentor tip: Done talking? Switch it off right away. A live mic in the booth picks up everything.

MIC LEVEL (MIC1, MIC2) / EQ (HI, LOW)Mic level and tone

Volume for MIC1 and MIC2 and a 2-band voice EQ (±12 dB).

Start at minimum and turn it up until your voice is clear over the music.

Mentor tip: Don't point the mic at the speakers — you'll get a squeal (feedback).

EQ

HI / MID / LOW (EQ/ISO)Channel EQ

Three knobs: highs, mids, lows, from −26 to +6 dB. They work as an EQ or as an isolator, depending on the EQ CURVE switch.

Cut the bass on the incoming track, and at the right moment swap the basslines.

Mentor tip: In a mix, only one track has the bass. Two kicks just make a rumble.

EQ CURVE (ISOLATOR, EQ)EQ mode

ISOLATOR: the knobs work as an isolator and cut a band almost completely. EQ: a classic, soft equalizer.

Techno and house DJs mostly use ISOLATOR; for open format, EQ is often more convenient.

Mentor tip: Check the setting before your set: it decides how deep the knobs cut.

Effects

COLORColor FX knob

The Sound Color FX knob on each channel: in the center the effect is off; turned either way, the selected effect kicks in.

With FILTER: turning left takes out the highs, turning right takes out the lows. A classic for smooth transitions.

Mentor tip: Don't forget to return the knob to center after the effect.

SOUND COLOR FX (SPACE / DUB ECHO / SWEEP / NOISE / CRUSH / FILTER)Color FX select

Six buttons pick the effect for the COLOR knobs on all channels. The selected button flashes; pressing it again turns the effect off.

To start, keep FILTER selected — it's the most useful one for transitions.

Mentor tip: SPACE and DUB ECHO work well on a track's exit, NOISE for a build-up.

PARAMETERColor FX parameter

An extra setting for the selected Sound Color FX (for example, filter resonance or echo feedback).

Found the sound with COLOR? Fine-tune the character with PARAMETER.

Mentor tip: Less is more: subtle settings sound more polished.

BEAT FX (selector)Beat FX select

The selector picks one of 14 beat-synced effects: DELAY, ECHO, PING PONG, SPIRAL, REVERB, TRANS, FILTER, FLANGER, PHASER, PITCH, SLIP ROLL, ROLL, VINYL BRAKE, HELIX.

The basic set: ECHO for an exit, REVERB for a breakdown, ROLL before a drop.

Mentor tip: VINYL BRAKE stops a track with style — but only at the end of a set or for a deliberate stop.

FX channel selector (1–4 / MIC / CROSS FADER A, B / MASTER)Beat FX channel

A rotary selector: the effect goes to channel 1–4, the mic, crossfader side A or B, or the master.

Put the effect on the outgoing track's channel, not on the master.

Mentor tip: Check the BEAT FX indicator on the channel before turning it on.

BEAT ◀ ▶Effect beat length

Set the effect length in beats; the time is calculated automatically from the BPM.

ECHO at 1 beat or 3/4 is the classic exit from a track.

Mentor tip: Don't know what to pick? Set 1 beat.

TIME / LEVEL/DEPTHEffect time and depth

TIME changes the effect time manually; LEVEL/DEPTH sets how much of the effect is in the sound.

Turn the effect on with low depth and add more as the phrase goes on.

Mentor tip: A sudden effect at full depth startles the room — smoothness is everything.

ON/OFF (BEAT FX)Beat FX on/off

Turns Beat FX on and off; the button flashes while the effect is working.

Turn it on at the start of a bar and off at the start of a new phrase.

Mentor tip: With QUANTIZE, the effect lands on the beat even if your press is a bit off.

X-PADEffect touch strip

While you touch it, the effect works; moving your finger changes the time or parameter. Let go and it turns off.

Short fills: touch it on the last bar of the phrase and let go on the drop.

Mentor tip: To keep the effect on after you let go, press ON/OFF while touching the strip.

FX FREQUENCY (HI, MID, LOW)Effect frequency bands

Chooses the bands the Beat FX affects. A lit button means that band is processed.

Turn off LOW and the echo won't muddy the bass.

Mentor tip: An effect on the highs only is the safest option for a beginner.

AUTO/TAP / TAPBPM for effects

AUTO: the mixer measures the BPM itself (70–180). TAP: you set the BPM by tapping the TAP button in rhythm.

BPM flashing on the screen? Switch to TAP and tap along on every beat.

Mentor tip: With CDJs on LINK and QUANTIZE on, the rhythm comes from the rekordbox grid — more accurate than any TAP.

QUANTIZE (UTILITY, WAKE UP)Effect quantize and menu

Turns on QUANTIZE for Beat FX (using the rekordbox track grid over LINK). Hold to open the UTILITY menu; the button also wakes the mixer from standby.

Playing with CDJs over LINK? Keep QUANTIZE on.

Mentor tip: QUANTIZE flashing on the screen means the mixer isn't getting the grid from the player.

SEND/RETURN (1/4” JACK / USB) / RETURN TYPE (AUX, INSERT) / ON/OFF / LEVELExternal effects

Connects an external effects processor (SEND/RETURN jacks on the back) or a phone with an FX app (USB port on top). INSERT replaces the channel's sound; AUX returns the effect to a channel whose selector is set to RETURN AUX.

Choose the source, the return type and the channel (FX channel selector), switch ON/OFF on, and set the level with the LEVEL knob.

Mentor tip: This is an advanced topic: master the built-in Beat FX first.

Headphones

CUEChannel cue

Sends the channel's sound to the headphones so you can prepare the next track without the room hearing it.

Press CUE on the next track's channel, beatmatch it in your headphones, then raise the fader.

Mentor tip: After the transition, turn CUE off on the old channel so you don't get confused in your headphones.

MIXING / LEVEL (HEADPHONES)Headphones: mix and volume

MIXING is the headphone balance between the cued channels and the master. LEVEL is the headphone volume.

With MIXING in the middle you hear both your track and the room — easy to compare.

Mentor tip: Start with LEVEL at minimum — protect your ears.

MONO SPLIT, STEREOHeadphone split

STEREO: the cued channel plays in both ears. MONO SPLIT: the cued channel in the left ear, the master in the right.

MONO SPLIT helps beginners: your track in one ear, the room in the other.

Mentor tip: Many pros use STEREO with the headphones on one ear — find your own way.

PHONESHeadphone jack

Headphone output on the front panel: a 6.3 mm large jack and a 3.5 mm mini jack.

Turn LEVEL down before plugging in your headphones.

Mentor tip: Carry your own 3.5 → 6.3 mm adapter — clubs often don't have one.

Master and booth

MASTER LEVELMaster volume

The overall volume at the MASTER1, MASTER2 and DIGITAL MASTER OUT outputs. Next to it are the master meter and CLIP.

Keep the master so the meter doesn't go into the red; the sound engineer controls the room volume.

Mentor tip: Master CLIP lit? Turn the channels or the master down instead of pushing harder.

BALANCELeft/right balance

Shifts the stereo balance of the MASTER, BOOTH, REC OUT, PHONES and other outputs to the left or right.

It's usually set dead center. Only touch it if the sound in the room or the booth is off to one side.

Mentor tip: One speaker seems quieter? First check that BALANCE is centered.

BOOTH MONITORDJ monitors

The volume of the speakers in the booth (BOOTH output).

Set the monitors so you can hear the mix without having to shout over them.

Mentor tip: A loud monitor means tired ears by the middle of your set.

USB / MIDI ON/OFFUSB and MIDI

A USB port on top for a computer (laptop audio goes to the channels with the selector on USB A/B). MIDI ON/OFF lets you control software from the mixer.

Playing from a laptop? Connect USB and set the channel selector to USB A or B.

Mentor tip: On Windows you need the driver from the manufacturer's website, or the mixer won't show up as a sound card.

Rear panel

LINE / PHONO / DIGITAL IN / MIC1, MIC2 / SIGNAL GNDRear panel inputs

LINE is for players, PHONO for turntables (MM), DIGITAL IN is a digital input from a player, MIC1 and MIC2 are for mics, SIGNAL GND is the turntable ground.

CDJ into LINE or DIGITAL on its channel, turntable into PHONO, ground to SIGNAL GND.

Mentor tip: Unused PHONO inputs are covered with caps — less noise.

MASTER1 (XLR) / MASTER2 (RCA) / BOOTH / REC OUT / DIGITAL MASTER OUTRear panel outputs

MASTER1 (balanced XLR) and MASTER2 (RCA) go to the room sound, BOOTH to the booth monitors, REC OUT is for recording, DIGITAL MASTER OUT is a digital output.

The room sound is usually connected from MASTER1 over XLR.

Mentor tip: MASTER1 is a balanced output only: an XLR → RCA adapter can degrade the sound; for RCA there's MASTER2.
